To start my first inquiry, I had to do some research and ask around my musician friends of what I need to do before starting to arrange a pre-existing song into a choral arrangement. My old music teacher and now my colleague, Jaymi Daniels, told me the best place to start is to find a Vocal/Piano/Guitar score to set a foundation of the song, including tempo, key signature and core rhythms. I managed to find a score to reference, which was on a Korean blog, as I am using a Korean song. The key signature of the song is in C Major, so it is very easy for elementary students to learn and the song has many great educational factors for music elements. The song has an accidental (sharp), tempo change from slow to fast, various rhythmic notes and dynamics. To get started with the arrangement, I started from copying the piano part from the original score. However, I realized that it was going to be too difficult for a choir accompanist to play while students sing and to also help the singers out with their notes. To solve this issue, I changed them up to my liking. After each section, which has not been marked yet, I also wrote the melody line for Voice 1 part to go with the piano. Than I realized that it was going to be very boring and uninteresting for the Voice 2 students to strictly sing a harmony, so I moved some melody parts to the Voice 2 and added harmonies, wherever I saw fit or empty. My hope is that both voices are going to be singing some portion of melody and harmony, so students get a learning of all different parts, before they part more professionally in upper years into soprano, alto, tenor and bass. The version I have screenshotted and attached below is still incomplete with only the verse and beginning part of chorus done, but it is the beginning of the longer process of refining and editing, which comes after writing all the initial parts down! I will post the video of the product in later reflection blog.
